Kinder in the Keys Unveils Free, Anonymous Tool for Depression Screening

Key Largo, FL, November 2024 — Kinder in the Keys Treatment Center, a mental health center based in Key Largo, FL, is thrilled to announce the launch of its free online depression quiz, that’s specifically designed to allow individuals to assess their mental health. The quiz is completely anonymous and can be completed from the privacy and comfort of their safe place, allowing them to better understand their emotional state, as well as the state of their mental health.

Sadly, depression and anxiety are something millions of US citizens, as well as people of the world, have to deal with on a daily basis, and the two conditions are recognized as the most common mental health issues today. Depression is often characterized as a persistent feeling of sadness, accompanied by a lack of motivation and interest in even the most basic daily activities. It can also include fatigue and difficulty concentrating, among other symptoms.

Anxiety, on the other hand, is often characterized by excessive worry and restlessness, along with increased heart rate and muscle tension. Admittedly, while these two conditions are distinct, they do share overlapping symptoms and can bear a significant impact on daily life and well-being—unfortunately, they can also occur together.

Understanding the signs and symptoms associated with these conditions can help the affected individuals take a more proactive approach to their well-being. The online quiz provides users with a quick, easy, and safe way to identify and determine the common signs of depression, as well as immediate feedback that would guide users toward potential next steps.

By offering this free quiz, Kinder in the Keys seeks to not just reduce and alleviate the stigma associated with mental conditions and mental health but also encourage people to take better care of themselves and their mental and physical well-being. The quiz relies on a Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), which uses a point system, where each response is scored from 0 to 3, reflecting on the intensity or frequency of the symptoms experienced.

The total score is the sum of all reactions, which is then categorized as minimal, mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the severity of the depression. To increase the outreach, Kinder in the Keys also designed the quiz as a free WordPress plugin for anyone to include in their website, thus reaching a broader audience and spreading mental health awareness.

“At Kinder in the Keys, we believe everyone deserves the chance to take control of their mental health without barriers,” says Dr. Laura Tanzini, DrPh, MA, MFT, Founder, Kinder in the Keys. “Our free online screening is a confidential way for people to check in with themselves, gain insight, and consider reaching out for further help if they need it.”

Kinder at the Keys is a women-owned women-only treatment center that provides women with a structured, safe, and secure environment to heal, focusing on a wide spectrum of women’s mental health needs and specializing in trauma recovery, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), eating disorders, narcissistic abuse, and other mental health-related issues.
