APEX, NC / ACCESSWIRE / November 30, 2022 / Dr. (Colonel) Josh McConkey is a board certified Emergency Physician, with over 20 years of practice in the emergency departments across the United States. As a flight surgeon and medical director for some of the most elite special forces operators in the world, Colonel McConkey has taken care of the men and women that make up the "Tip of America's Spear".
These special forces operators, the pararescuemen (or PJ's), are asked to rescue downed pilots and air crew trapped behind enemy lines, and they perform daring rescues of both military and civilians at sea, on mountain tops, and in some of the most inhospitable climates on Earth.
Each of these special operators have had someone in their life that has given them the support and the confidence to push the limits of human endurance to become the "Tip of the Spear"! As the commander of a US Air Force squadron at Joint Base Andrews, Air Force District Washington D.C., Dr. McConkey's leaderhip ethos and his youth leadership inititative is paramount to preparing America's youth to be the leaders of tomorrow and he's calling on all Americans to, "Be the Weight Behind the Spear!"

About Josh McConkey
In addition to his decorated combat military service, Dr. McConkey has been recognized by his hometown community. As an alumni of Aliance High School (Alliance, NE), The Alliance Public Schools Foundation was proud to announce Josh as the 2022 inductee into the Wall of Fame.
Josh is the son of Mike and Jane McConkey from Alliance, Nebraska and Lori and Brian Tegen from Renton, Washington. Josh completed his high school education in 1996 and the Rural Health Opportunity Program at Chadron State College prior to graduating Medical School at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2003. He commissioned into the Nebraska Army National Guard while in medical school.
In 2007, he deployed to Iraq to provide medevac support as a flight surgeon, later transferring to the Air Force Reserves to train as a Critical Care Air Transport physician. In 2019, Josh promoted to Colonel while serving at the rescue squadron in Portland, Oregon. After moving to North Carolina in 2012, Josh served his fellow veterans at the VA hospital in Durham and as an assistant Professor at Duke University.
Josh and his wife, Elsa, have three children and now reside in Apex, North Carolina.
Josh is a member of the United States Air Force Reserves and he has received the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medical, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Nuclear Deterence Operations Service Medal, and others.
