Sakthiswaran Rangaraju, CIA, CISA, CISSP ,President, IIA San Jose Chapter

Sakthiswaran Rangaraju, President, IIA San Jose Chapter is confident that this partnership will develop a highly-skilled and knowledgeable workforce in the field of internal auditing to fulfill growing demand for internal audit professionals in the Bay Area.

"Internal auditing requires a combination of technical skills and business acumen to evaluate an organization's internal controls, financial reporting, information systems and compliance with laws and regulations. Internal auditors also need to be able to identify and assess risks, communicate effectively with different levels of management, and develop recommendations for improving internal controls and processes."

Our academic relations initiative aims to foster relationships between the internal audit profession and academic institutions with the objective of

  • Promoting the internal audit profession to students and faculty
  • Encouraging the development of internal audit education programs at universities and colleges
  • Facilitating the exchange of information and resources between the internal audit profession and academic institutions
  • Supporting research on internal auditing and related topics

The IIA also offers a free student membership program for those who are enrolled in a college or university. The program is designed to provide students with access to resources and opportunities that can help them learn about and prepare for a career in internal auditing. Some of the benefits of student membership with the IIA include:

  • Access to the IIA's online library of research, publications, and other resources
  • Discounts on IIA training courses, certification exams, and other professional development opportunities
  • Eligibility to participate in IIA internships, mentoring programs, and other networking opportunities
  • Subscription to the IIA's monthly magazine, Internal Auditor

Student membership with the IIA is an excellent way for students to gain exposure to the internal audit profession, learn about the latest trends and best practices, and make connections with internal audit professionals. It also allows students to gain access to the knowledge and experience of the internal audit profession helping them to build their careers.

Internal audit profession is projected to grow 4% from 2020 to 2030 by The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Due to growing complexity of business operations and regulations, the increasing importance of cyber security, risk management, and the need for organizations to improve their internal controls, the demand and opportunities for internal audit professionals in the coming years are significant.
