Entertainmint Acquires Assets of Media Partner Filmocracy

Founder Paul Jun joins Entertainmint team as co-founder in new digital venture.

CHICAGO, IL / ACCESSWIRE / July 11, 2024 / Entertainmint has acquired select assets of media partner Filmocracy in an agreement that's brought Filmocracy founder Paul Jun aboard the Entertainmint team as a Co-Founder and Advisor.

Filmocracy is a gamified video streaming service that has incentivized users to watch, rate, and review content since 2018. Founder Paul Jun has been committed to bringing festivals online, offering them streaming and festival content via digital tickets, virtual conferencing and more. The service also boasts a streamer with over 3000 pieces of content and a live user base.

"The truth of the entertainment landscape is that independent companies and artists need to unite together in the face of an industry that is crumbling," states Paul Jun, Filmocracy founder. "By joining forces with Entertainmint, I'm confident we can build momentum towards putting long-form creators in charge of their destinies."

"Entertainmint is thrilled to welcome Paul Jun on board as a co-founder," states Entertainmint.com co-founder and CEO Genevieve Thiers. "We've been impressed with Filmocracy for years, and his ideas dovetail with ours for where the media industry is going and can go." Thiers is part of a four-person co-founder team at Entertainmint, comprised also of CTO Dan Ratner, VP of Distribution AJ Salmen and VP of Business Affairs Mark Vadik. "Since the writer's strike, it's become more and more clear that creators need ways to get their content to market without relying primarily on big streamers, who are increasingly cutting costs, shelving films after short run times and integrating AI." The Entertainmint platform provides fans with new and integrated ways to fan-fund new work they love through innovative methods like "collaborative credits," where fans can purchase slides of an opening credit montage, get custom art and receive early access to new shows. The idea is to provide new creators with a direct way to market and distribute new long-form work, keeping them both in charge of their IP and at the forefront of their show's revenue intake.

Why fan funding? Entertainmint believes that by breaking the walls between fans and creators, it's possible to make an end-to-end "community studio" and distribution hub. The site presents fans with never-before-seen ways to integrate into their favorite new shows, including buying tickets to join the show's team (the writers, animation, production of a show,) be part of in-person or virtual casting for bit roles and even participate in immersive experiences with actors on-set as part of the world of a show. "When you lower the walls between creators and fans and consider new shows interactive ‘worlds' instead of just fixed stories, anything is possible," states Entertainmint CTO Dan Ratner. "Who says that you can't have a one-on-one in-person experience inside the world of a show with your favorite cast member, in character? What's possible is only limited by our imaginations and the focus on streaming as a revenue source to date."

The team has raised 1.5M Pre-seed on a SAFE note and the platform is now coming out of beta, with case studies located at www.entertainmint.com. The platform's first "show raise" was NFT-animated series Crash Punks, with creator Grace Ng. Ng premiered the opening episode of her new series Crash Punks at Catalyst Film Festival on October 30 in Duluth, MN, and subsequently not only wowed the audience but also won Most Innovative Creator in the Catalyst Story Institute awards. Creator Adam Garcia was able to raise his entire Season 2 budget using the Entertainmint platform for his web series Fairytale Fallout, and Confessions creator Evette Vargas has been raising funds to complete a pilot. New projects include Mike Rebel music videos, the new NFT-based animated series Frenchie Ballers and NYC-based new comedy web series Rat Czar, from producer Ryan Cunningham and featuring cameos from SNL's Rachel Dratch, Real Housewives' Luann de Lesseps and more.

The core team of Entertainmint has had 20 years of success making digital marketplaces. Co-founders and marketplace builders Genevieve Thiers and Dan Ratner were founders of Sittercity.com, which raised 56M, served 10M and sold to Bright Horizons in 2020. AJ Salmen has over 20 years of experience in distribution and brings critical partner relationships Mark Vadik is an entertainment lawyer and IP legal expert. Jun will join initially as a co-founder and Advisor, with potential for a full-time role later.

Entertainmint is not just a group of dedicated co-founders. The platform has now aided thousands of creators and maintains an Executive Advisory group includes creative experts like Karl Gadusek (Showrunner, Stranger Things,) Caisse St. Onge (Showrunner, 30 Rock,) Cirina Catania (co-founders, Sundance,) Sandy Climan (The Aviator, Scorcese,) Ryan Cunningham (Broad City,) Andrew Sheppard (gaming), Pam Cedarquist (Mindhunters,) Harper Reed (web3) and over 40+ more creatives and luminaries.
