UHSM Draws Attention to Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, and it's crucial for people with a family history of the disease to take an active approach, including early detection.

Unite Health Share Ministries™ (UHSM), a nonprofit, faith-based healthcare sharing ministry supporting Christian believers through member-to-member healthcare sharing memberships, draws attention to Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, October 13, and hopes its members will join them by sharing support for those with a diagnosis and raising awareness of the importance of early detection.

UHSM believes strongly in a preventative approach to healthcare. According to the CDC, 42,000 women and 500 men in the US die from breast cancer each year; among women, breast cancer is the most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death. Women must take proactive care, from scheduling a mammogram and completing breast self-assessment to learning family history and getting educated on the signs and symptoms.

“At UHSM, we recognize the toll a cancer diagnosis can have not just on the person, but on the loved one’s supporting them,” said Christopher Jin, UHSM president. “Based on our three pillars of health – mind, body and spirit – we promote connecting those diagnosed with cancer to an organization that facilitates a familial community and proactive treatments.”

With its various partnerships, UHSM members have access to programs that provide community support during a difficult diagnosis; for instance, WeShare by UHSM connects members with valuable resources, like Cancer Kinship. Founded by UHSM Ambassador Yolanda Origel, it links survivors with a community of other survivors. Moreover, UHSM’s mind, body and spirit wellness programs minimize the impacts of a cancer diagnosis, including depression and anxiety, by focusing on a patient's mental well-being.

This Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, UHSM members can take the first step of preemptive care, by scheduling a cancer screening and reading these latest blogs on breast cancer.

ABOUT UHSM

Unite Health Share Ministries (UHSM) is a nonprofit, faith-based health sharing ministry that facilitates member-to-member healthcare sharing among fellow Christians, serving as a connector to administer medical cost sharing through their membership. The UHSM mission is to help Christian families fulfill their God-given purpose to care for one another, foster holistic wellbeing, and positively impact our communities in need.

The UHSM mission is to unite the community of Believers, all Christians, regardless of denomination or church affiliation, to identify, foster, and facilitate education, charitable outreach, programs, and services for the communities of like-minded religious individuals, those that desire to honor their personal, sincerely held religious beliefs, as set forth in the Bible, as well as to provide benevolence to others, as Christ did.
