About the Author

Charlotte Krigbaum was the oldest of six children born in 1952 to Dale and Peggy Krigbaum. She was raised near Paris, Arkansas, living a simple country life, poor but never knew it. They lived near her grandparents, Harley and Laura Krigbaum all her childhood. Spending many evenings listening to stories of their lives and family history, Charlotte realized that both their families had been through many battles of one kind or another. Yet, their faith in God and love for their family was strong.  One of the greatest blessings was when it was too hot to go to sleep, Pa would take his fiddle outside and play for a few hours, to give the house time to cool a little. This was family time together. At times others were there with their instruments to play with him. If not there, it would be at someone else’s house. Wherever we were, there was usually music.  The family was large, so we could count on a lot of children being together much of the time. Which meant lots of games that groups could play together and lots of singing. We all loved the music and were allowed to sing or learn any instrument we were interested in. No instrument was ever kept away from children. We were encouraged to learn if we would. Charlotte’s Daddy wanted her to play mandolin because it had a small neck and her hands were small. He could play it, but his hands were large. Growing up proved to be a lot harder than she had expected. Life was full of children of all ages. Charlotte began to wonder what it would be like to be a mother someday, hoping that when it did happen, she could remember how Ma had handled children, hoping to have the same patience and love for her children.

As she became a teenager and then an adult, she wanted to write about the lives and stories of her grandparents so she could pass them down to her children. Lives had changed so much over the years that she didn’t want any of them to take for granted how God have blessed them and brought the family through so many trials.
