Tyler TX School Chaplain Program For Student Stress Counselling Support Launched

The National School Chaplain Association (NSCA) (405-831-3299) has expanded their presence in Texas and is now working alongside schools in Tyler that want to hire a chaplain for their student body.

The National School Chaplain Association has announced that they are now assisting elementary, middle, and high school officials in Tyler in hiring one of their professional, accredited chaplains ahead of the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.

Following the passing of the Chaplain Bill in the State of Texas, all K-12 schools are able to hire a chaplain on a part-time or full-time basis, and—as the leading accreditation, training and advocacy body for chaplaincy in the United States—the NSCA is able to help schools find the right chaplain for their school community from a diverse pool of highly skilled and educated individuals.

The National School Chaplain Association recommends their accredited chaplains to any school leader who wants to improve the educational, emotional, ethical and social support structures available in their school and who wants to reduce student stress and anxiety.

NSCA chaplains receive extensive training so that when they are placed in a school, they can offer students supportive and empowering counsel, meaningful spiritual guidance, and a moral and ethical education.

Across almost all learning contexts, the association states that chaplains have been proven to improve student well-being.

“Chaplains provide guidance and help build resilient young people,” said a spokesperson for the association. “Gender confusion, lack of purpose, and hopelessness have resulted in record-level dropout rates and an epidemic of suicide among young people. In a historical era of stress, conflict, discord, and loneliness - the role of chaplain has never been more critical.”

The NSCA has seen first-hand that stress, anxiety and depression have become corrosive forces in public education, sapping students and schools of purpose, hope and happiness. They are confident that their chaplains can work to reverse this trend by establishing a genuine sense of community spirit, reinforcing the importance of a well-rounded education and creating a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space for students to grow their understanding of themselves and their place in the world.

Their spokesperson added, “Chaplains provide much-needed emotional support, guidance, and compassion to young minds during their formative years.”
