GRANT OPPORTUNITY FOR SCHOOLS TO IMPLEMENT A YOGA-BASED PROGRAM TO BUILD RESILIENCE IN STUDENTS

The Plymouth County Drug Endangered Children (DEC) Alliance is providing grant funds for free training to implement BALANCE Workshops -- a yoga-based social-emotional learning (SEL) and resilience-building program -- in schools and community centers, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.

Designed to mitigate the effects of childhood trauma, BALANCE Workshops offer an engaging multi-modal approach to wellness. The program also includes a family engagement component, which helps to build a stronger home-school/community connection and deepen the collective understanding of the concepts taught.

“This is such a good opportunity for schools and community groups to expand their trauma informed activities for children,” DA Cruz said. “I am so pleased our office can help support training for facilitators of Balance Workshops.”

Plymouth Public Schools has been at the forefront of this initiative, having recently completed training. Starting this coming school year, all eight elementary schools in the district will incorporate BALANCE Workshops into their curricular activities. This summer, participants from the Plymouth Public School System took part in the training and are now eagerly preparing to implement the program with their students.

These grant funds will enable participants to undertake the BALANCE Workshops facilitator training through an online, self-paced program. Once trained, facilitators can bring this transformative program to their respective school systems or community-based centers.

Other school systems and agencies within Plymouth County are encouraged to seize this opportunity and take advantage of the free training while it is still available. The program's impact is extensive and promises to be a significant investment in the community’s future well-being.
