Omnia Protocol: untraceable blockchain infrastructure

By: Get News

Omnia Protocol is a decentralized application that provides privacy solutions to securely access blockchains.

Offering untraceable access to the blockchain, Omnia ensures that no single point of failure will ever disrupt blockchain applications or wallets integrating with it.

To maintain privacy, Omnia Protocol can generate secure endpoints for users to interact with their wallet or distributed applications when accessing the blockchain.

Omnia Protocol rewards node owners for sharing their resources by running either blockchain nodes and/or privacy relayers. Anyone can earn rewards by hosting and maintaining a node on a specific blockchain through Omnia’s untraceable blockchain node infrastructure.

When more people are incentivized to run nodes the more decentralized and healthy the blockchain network will become.

These are four key aspects of the Omnia Protocol:

  1. Omnia’s infrastructure consists of blockchain nodes and privacy relayers.
  2. Node owners register their nodes through a simple web interface provided by Omnia.
  3. Privacy relayers index these nodes, and use a mixnet to ensure privacy is protected.
  4. Users access the blockchain via RPC endpoints for any of the networks supported.

Most of the privacy aspects in blockchains were addressed within on-chain solutions such as the use of Zero-Knowledge Proofs or Ring Signatures.

However, when it comes to accessing the blockchain, off-chain privacy concerns are not yet properly addressed with tailored solutions specific to this technology.

Central providers can exploit the metadata generated by users that access the blockchain, as almost 90% of decentralized applications and critical systems within the blockchain ecosystem are connected to the same node providers. They control most of the access to blockchain infrastructure and might be used to gain financial advantages.

Centralizing a chain that was created with the intention of being decentralized leaves the network at a high risk of becoming unavailable.

In November 2020, a bug within the node software used by the aforementioned centralized node provider caused an Ethereum outage, where major exchanges and wallet providers halted their operations, and this was only the beginning.
