By: Get News
A Bite of Hope Promotes Health by Promoting Businesses That Provide Fresh, Healthy FoodsA Bite of HOPE is a Houston-based non-profit created to improve the future of communities that struggle with obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular disease in Houston. The Houston-based non-profit, A Bite of Hope, encourages health through healthy eating — especially fresh, natural foods. As part of their mission, they support, nurture, and promote local food businesses that offer fresh, natural, healthy foods to the communities they serve. It’s an amazing program for small businesses as well as the communities that benefit from them.

Anyone who owns or operates a small food business should know about the A Bite of Hope program.

A Bite of Hope is a Houston-based non-profit developed by Hope Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides health care services to all people, regardless of the patient’s ability to pay. The A Bite of Hope program’s mission is “To change the food environment in Houston. Focusing on integrating the medical and culinary resources to create healthier communities.”

A unique aspect of the A Bite of Hope program is the education, support, and promotion they provide to their Food Business Partners – businesses that grow, produce, or prepare natural, fresh, healthy food options. The program’s philosophy regarding businesses is that most are strongly positioned to play a vital and impactful role in providing healthy options in the communities they serve.

The businesses in the program include restaurants, food trucks, personal chefs, food producers, bakeries, and more. Food Business Partners take part in an educational program, led by Joseph Brozovich, a professional chef and A Bite of Hope’s Culinary Program Coordinator and Lead Instructor. In the chef-led training, the Food Business Partners learn about food nutrition and about ways to prepare flavorful meals using natural, fresh ingredients. From there, A Bite of Hope supports and promotes the Food Business Partners through additional training, networking with other food businesses, business growth and expansion resources, and by promoting them via the A Bite of Hope website, social media, and events.

For example, the program’s Food Business Partners are included on the Healthy Food Map on their website. There you can search for healthy food options based on location, dietary needs, and types of food. The tool helps make healthy, fresh food choices more accessible to communities while promoting the Food Business Partners.

The amount of assistance and support A Bite of Hope provides its Food Business Partners is impressive and has made a profound impact on many of them – facilitating growth and success for the businesses while fulfilling A Bite of Hope’s mission to bring more healthy food options to communities.
