NextEra Energy Resources has broken ground on a 110 MW wind farm in Minnesota.

The Walleye Wind Energy Center in Rock County will feature 40 GE wind turbines.

Subject to local and state approvals, the project is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2022.

The Walleye Wind Energy Center will create between 150-185 construction and 3-4 full-time jobs to maintain and operate the project, NextEra said.

Rock County landowners will receive estimated payments of $34 million over the first 30 years of the project, while the county is set to receive an estimated $18 million in additional revenue.

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission approved the project plan in Aug. 2021.

Municipal Power Agency will procure the electricity generated by the wind farm for 30 years under a power purchase agreement.
