16 families can return to their homes today in Loiza, Puerto Rico

By: Get News

Irving Vidal entered his house today for the first time after Hurricane Fiona’s passage, thanks to the water suction works that were carried out in flooded areas.

After four days under water, today the suction process was carried out in Loiza in the Mini Mini sector of this municipality, accessed through Los Calcanos. Residents in the neighborhood have been isolated due to the floods caused by the passage of Hurricane Fiona, isolating families in this sector and making it difficult to receive essential products and services. The suction process was able to remove a total of 50,000 gallons of water.

Today, a private plumbing and water suction company visited this northern municipality to clear the stagnant and unhealthy water that affects Mini Mini and its residents, thanks to the efforts of the Fahad & Glenda Ghaffar Foundation, in collaboration with Alma de Bahia, a non profit organization based in Rio Grande. The entity contributes to the sustainability of the local community through conservation initiatives, environmental education and social responsibility.

“At Alma de Bahía we work closely with public and private organizations to protect natural resources, we contribute to education and the quality of life of the communities,” explained Marcela Canon, its executive director. The stagnation became a problem not only for the environment but also for the residents of the neighborhood who could not even receive food, nor make repairs to their own houses affected by the hurricane. “We thank the Fahad & Glenda Ghaffar Foundation for coordinating with the professional team and for supporting the suction of the floods,” said Ali Sattar, operations officer of Bahia Beach Resort. During the last seven years, the Fahad and Glenda Ghaffar Foundation has contributed to local entities dedicated to health and education.
