Leeward Renewable places 100 MW solar + storage project in service

The project includes more than 415,000 First Solar thin-film photovoltaic modules.

Leeward Renewable Energy said it completed construction and started operations of its 100 MW Rabbitbrush Solar Facility in Kern County, California. The project includes a 20 MW, 50 MWh battery energy storage system.

Energy generated by the project will serve two not-for-profit, community-owned electricity providers, Central Coast Community Energy and Silicon Valley Clean Energy, through two 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs).

McCarthy Building Cos. was the EPC contractor. The project includes more than 415,000 First Solar thin-film photovoltaic modules.

Rabbitbrush is Central Coast Community Energy’s second solar-plus-storage PPA to come online this year.

Leeward closed construction financing and secured tax equity commitment for the Rabbitbrush Solar Facility in June, and closed on the tax equity funding in October.
