Iconic Singer/Radio Host Tony Orlando is Honored With “WABC All American Broadcasting Award”

Iconic Singer/Radio Host Tony Orlando is Honored With "WABC All American Broadcasting Award"

During a dazzling array of flashing lights and an elaborate gathering of the who’s who of broadcasters, WABC held its annual gala including a spectacular honor given to singer, songwriter, entertainer, TV personality, continuing veteran’s advocate and top radio host Tony Orlando. The award given to him was the “WABC ALL AMERICAN BROADCASTING AWARD”, the first ever granted.

The poetry of this was the honor was presented by Bruce Morrow (known as Cousin Brucie) who was the first person ever to introduce Orlando to the stage at Palisades Park, when he was only 16 years old. Cousin Brucie also introduced Tony to his retirement at his last show, an arena filled with 10,000 in attendance at Mohegan Sun this past year after Orlando’s 64 years in show-business, an unbelievable and unprecedented tribute.

Orlando’s radio spot on Music Radio 77 WABC called “Saturday Nights with Tony Orlando” airs every Saturday night from 10PM to Midnight following Cousin Brucie’s show. “Saturday Nights With Tony Orlando” has risen to become one of the top radio broadcasts in New York as well as on their internet app that can be heard throughout the globe. The reason for this is Tony is a natural born storyteller. His genuine warmth and authenticity shines through each of his rock n’ roll tales and he presents them always in the most unique and fascinating way. He has also had the most iconic guests on his show including: Paul Stanley, Smokey Robinson, Garth Brooks, Gloria Gayner, Lionel Richie, Dionne Warwick, Engelbert Humperdinck, Priscilla Presley, Ann-Margret, Neil Sedaka, Jackie de Shannon, Randy Edelman, and a marathon of others.

Aside from his radio broadcasting career there are endless facets to Tony’s triumphant show-biz reign. Known for songs as Tony Orlando & Dawn include “Knock Three Times”, “Candida”, and “Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree” (which raised over 200 million dollars for US veterans). His television show “Tony Orlando and Dawn Variety Show” aired July of 1974 on CBS and enjoyed a successful three seasons and has just celebrated its 50th Anniversary. His advocacy and support benefitting US Troops, and wounded veterans while raising awareness all over the nation continues to be an endless conviction and movement of his always.

The WABC gala extravaganza also included an honor from the US Marines for his years of flawless dedication to US veterans as they presented Tony with a flag that flew over the Capital. He was also reunited with Dawn, Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent Wilson and surprised the star-studded crowd with a performance of “Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree.”
