Today, prominent investor rights law firm Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann LLP (BLB&G) is proud to announce the election of partner Jeroen van Kwawegen to the firm’s Executive Committee. Jeroen joins current Executive Committee members Jerry Silk, Salvatore Graziano, and Hannah Ross.
“I am looking forward to working with Jeroen on the firm’s Executive Committee,” says Jerry. “Jeroen is a strategic thinker with exceptional judgment, and I am confident that the firm and our clients will benefit from his service.”
Jeroen is head of BLB&G’s corporate governance department and oversees all breach of fiduciary duty litigation that the firm pursues on behalf of shareholders against directors and senior executives around the country. Jeroen also leads BLB&G’s work representing European institutional investors in shareholder litigation, including securities class actions.
Jeroen joined BLB&G in 2009 and became partner in 2014. During his time at BLB&G, he has recovered more than $4 billion for investors, improved corporate governance practices at numerous companies, and vindicated fundamental shareholder voting and franchise rights.
“I'm honored and grateful for the confidence of my partners and look forward to serving the firm in this additional capacity with Jerry, Sal, and Hannah,” says Jeroen. “Together we will carry forward BLB&G's 40-year legacy as the leading law firm representing investors who have been harmed by corporate misconduct."
This past year, Jeroen’s trial skills and courtroom advocacy were instrumental in a series of precedent-setting victories and settlements. He represented a Swedish institutional investor in a securities class action against Wells Fargo in New York, which resulted in a $1 billion cash settlement; represented a U.S. public pension fund in a stockholder derivative action against the board of directors and senior executives of FirstEnergy Corp. arising out of a massive political bribery scandal in Ohio, which resulted in a $180 million settlement and unprecedented corporate governance improvements; and led a team that secured a $400 million post-trial opinion in a case challenging Columbia Pipeline’s merger with TransCanada—one of the largest shareholder opinions in Delaware history.
Currently, Jeroen is prosecuting several securities class actions, including cases against Meta Platforms and Qualcomm, as well as breach of fiduciary duty actions, including actions involving Banco Santander, Credit Suisse, Warner Brothers, Continental Resources, and Sirius XM.
Jeroen is a board member of Legal Services NYC—one of the largest legal aid organizations in the United States—which provides legal assistance to more than 100,000 New Yorkers every year, including immigrants, veterans, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Jeroen is also a member of the advisory board of the Institute for Law & Economics at the University of Pennsylvania, a joint initiative of the university’s Carley Law School, Wharton School, and Department of Economics. He is a frequent speaker at bar association and industry events on shareholder litigation and corporate governance-related topics and publishes on topics of interest to institutional investors.
