New York DWI Lawyer Russ Kofman Discusses Ignition Interlock Devices

New York DWI lawyer Russ Kofman of Lebedin Kofman LLP (https://www.lebedinkofman.com/ignition-interlock-devices/) has released an article discussing ignition interlock devices and their implications for drivers convicted of DWI offenses in the state of New York. The article, which was recently published on the firm's website, provides important information for drivers who may be facing DWI charges or who have already been convicted.

In the article, the New York DWI Lawyer explains what ignition interlock devices are, how they work, and why they are important for drivers who have been convicted of DWI offenses. He notes that ignition interlock devices are required by law in New York for certain DWI convictions and that they can be a useful tool for preventing repeat offenses.

"An ignition interlock device is a breathalyzer that is installed in your car," the New York DWI Lawyer explains in the article. "It requires you to blow into the device before you can start your car, and it measures your blood alcohol content (BAC). If your BAC is over the legal limit, the device will prevent your car from starting."

Kofman goes on to explain that ignition interlock devices are required in New York for drivers who have been convicted of certain DWI offenses, including those who have had a BAC of 0.18 or higher, those who have refused a chemical test, and those who have been convicted of multiple DWI offenses.

"The use of ignition interlock devices can be an effective tool in preventing repeat DWI offenses," Kofman notes in the article. "By requiring drivers to blow into the device before starting their car, it ensures that they are not driving under the influence of alcohol. And by keeping repeat offenders off the road, it can help make our streets safer for everyone."

Kofman also discusses some of the potential downsides of ignition interlock devices, including their cost and the inconvenience of having to use them. However, he notes that these drawbacks are outweighed by the benefits of preventing repeat DWI offenses and keeping dangerous drivers off the road.

"Ultimately, the use of ignition interlock devices is an important tool in the fight against drunk driving," Kofman says. "It may not be a perfect solution, but it can go a long way in keeping our roads safe and preventing needless tragedies."

In accordance with New York State law, it is prohibited for any individual to knowingly rent, lease, or lend a motor vehicle to a person who has had their driving privileges restricted to vehicles equipped with an ignition interlock device unless the vehicle is indeed equipped with such a device. It is considered a violation of the law when an individual knowingly rents, leases, or lends a motor vehicle that lacks an ignition interlock device while being fully aware of this fact.

"DWI charges can have serious consequences, including fines, license suspension, and even jail time," Kofman says. "If you are facing DWI charges in New York, it is important to seek the help of a qualified lawyer who can help you navigate the legal system and protect your rights."
