Sustainable Development Progress in Italy and the United Arab Emirates

By: Get News

President of UAE His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has announced that 2023 will be the “Year of Sustainability”.

The “Year of Sustainability” will include several initiatives, activities and events that draw upon the UAE's deep-rooted values of sustainability and the legacy of its founder, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It will also focus on environmental sustainability by inspiring collective action through a nationwide commitment towards sustainable practices, in line with the UAE’s national strategy, bringing together everyone who calls the UAE home to work towards a prosperous future.

His Highness also emphasised that the Year of Sustainability has particular significance as the UAE prepares to host the 28th United Nations climate change summit, Conference of Parties (COP28). He stated that the UAE is determined for COP28 to set a precedent in the collective global efforts to address climate change.

On the occasion of the Sustainable Development Festival 2023, promoted by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS) and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, together with the Italian Cultural Institute, is pleased to host a panel discussion on Sustainable Development Progress in Italy and the United Arab Emirates, on 31st May 2023, 18.30 pm at Italian Cultural Institute in Abu Dhabi.

Mr. Francesco Favaro, CEO of Watergy International Group, is one of the speakers on the discussion panel and he will present the project #isuppoetalbedo at the event.
#ISUPPORTALBEDO

The project #ISUPPORTALBEDO is made from Watergy International in collaboration with University of Sharjah and Centro Interuniversitario di Ricerca sull'Inquinamento e sull'Ambiente - "Mauro Felli" (CiRiAF).

HAS technologies could be proposed as a complementary strategy for GW mitigation in order to cope international commitments against Climate Changes.

HAS may introduce three separate contributions:

-  The direct contribution to the mitigation of global warming by reflecting out of the atmosphere the component of short-wave radiation coming from the sun;
-  The indirect contribution generated by the energy saving for reducing cooling requirements of buildings;
-  The indirect contribution for mitigating the urban heat island phenomenon.

The CO2 compensation capacity of the albedo UAE locations has been quantified that about 5 to 6 m2 of high albedo surface can offset 1 CO2eq tons.

The #isupportalbedo project aim to obtain the approval for the Albedo control technology as a way to produce carbon credits tradable on the EU ETS as same as solar or carbon sequestration technologies. The success of the project depend on the support that it will receive from the international community and from governments.
