BR Williams Announces Partnership with Lutzie 43 Foundation

BR Williams, in partnership with the Lutzie 43 Foundation's 43 Key Seconds, is arming their employees with a tangible reminder to take 43 seconds to ensure they have a clear head, clear hands, and click their seatbelt before turning the key.

BR Williams, a full-service supply chain solutions and freight management company, have invested in their employees' safety on the roads by adopting the Lutzie 43 Foundation's 43 Key Seconds safe driving initiative.

BR Williams just celebrated 64 years of service in the transportation industry. Over the years, we have gone above and beyond the industry standard of safe driving, and this year seemed ideal to partner with the Lutzie 43 Foundation.

The Lutzie 43 Foundation's 43 Key Seconds safe driving initiative aims to create the first nationally-recognized symbol for distracted, impaired, and safe driving awareness and prevention. Organizations across the country are partnering with the Lutzie 43 Foundation and investing in their employees, their families, and communities by adopting the 43 Key Seconds into their organization's safety initiatives.

"As a transportation-based company, a partnership with the Lutzie 43 Foundation and adopting the 43 Key Seconds safe driving initiative was a no-brainer. We view the 43 Key Seconds safe driving initiative as not only a corporate safety initiative but also an employee benefit. We wanted to implement this initiative in September for our BR Williams Family Employee Appreciation Month. The 43 Key Seconds safe driving initiative is a way to keep not only our employees safe and show that we care about them, but also their families and our communities," said Stephen Auvil, Vice President of Safety and Compliance.

By adopting the 43 Key Second, BR Williams is arming their employees with the physical 43 Key Seconds key, a tangible tool and reminder to take 43 Key Seconds to ensure they have a clear head, clear hands, clear eyes, and click their seatbelt before turning their key.

"Our partnerships with companies like BR Williams not only help their bottom line but more importantly, it saves lives. My son lost his life as a passenger in a distracted, impaired, and unsafe driving crash. The 43 Key Seconds safe driving initiative is the ideal intersection of social good and corporate success. BR Williams and our partners are proving that 43 Key Seconds make it possible to integrate 43 Key Seconds into their core operating strategies (enhancing their safety culture), benefitting their businesses, employees, and employee families, while embracing societal concerns (creating a new cause – assisting in creating safer roadways) impacting their customers and communities they serve. " said Mike Lutzenkirchen, executive director of the Lutzie 43 Foundation and Philip's father.

Distracted, impaired, unsafe driving crashes and fatalities affect a company's bottom line. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA), motor vehicle crashes cost employers $60 billion annually in medical care, legal expenses, property damage, and lost productivity. According to the National Traffic Safety Administration, the average crash costs an employer $16,500. When a worker has an on-the-job crash that results in an injury, the cost to their employer is $74,000. Costs can exceed $500,000 when a fatality is involved. Off-the-job crashes are costly to employers as well.

 ABOUT LUTZIE 43 FOUNDATION:

The Lutzie 43 Foundation aims to encourage and empower all drivers to be positive ambassadors for safe driving through character development, mentorship, and real-world application. The Lutzie 43 Foundation was established in loving memory of former Auburn football player Philip Lutzenkirchen, shortly after he lost his life in a car accident in 2014. In his memory, the foundation's 43 Key Seconds safe driving initiative aims to create the first nationally-recognized symbol for distracted and impaired driving awareness and prevention. The foundation's motto for youth is to "Live like Lutz, Love like Lutz, and Learn from Lutz," reflecting its desire to help others live out the many positive character attributes that Philip displayed while learning from the circumstances that led to his death.
