‘FuturaCanvas’ Concludes Successfully, Focusing on the ‘Coexistence of Technology and Art’

By: Get News

The largest global art and tech conference in South Korea, ‘FuturaCanvas,’ concluded successfully from September 5th to 7th at Itaewon CAVEHOUSE, attracting over 1,200 participants.

DoTPlanner (CEOs: Diana Kim and Michelle Kim), in collaboration with co-organizer ARTRY (Founder: HyeIn Jeon), successfully hosted South Korea's largest conference on the coexistence of art and technology, with the support of over 30 partners, including NFC (Non Fungible Conference), Gallery STAN, Seoul Auction X and kanvas Dubai.

This year’s theme, “Hand-in-hand: Human Hyper-Node,” presented diverse human perspectives on how technologies such as blockchain and AI are being integrated into art forms including visual art, music, design, and popular culture, within the evolving digital ecosystem from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0.

On the first day, September 5th, discussions centered on blockchain technology, NFTs, and Web 3.0, with a focus on digital art. Notable speakers included Diane Drubay, founder of We Are Museums; Sebastien Borget, Co-Founder of The Sandbox; John Karp, Chair of NFC and CEO of NFT Factory; Seth Goldstein, founder of Bright Moments; and digital artist DeeKay and ThankYouX. A highlight of the day was the first demonstration of the AI real-time voice-to-video model (VVM) in Korea, which captivated attendees as it created illustrations based on spoken words.

Additionally, Jaebum Joo’s pixel art session was fully booked, and the Belgian artist Rhymezlikedimez, visiting Korea for the first time, engaged in in-depth discussions with participants about collaborative ecosystems involving ‘Star artists.’

On the second day, September 6th, the keynote lecture was delivered by Professor Kwangsuk Lee from Seoul National University of Science and Technology. Following the lecture on the 'Critical Impact of AI on Humans,' Professor Lee engaged in a debate with an AI, which, combined with a surge of questions from participants, created an energetic and dynamic session. Other speakers included Director Rima Yoon of Rigend Film, Sungpil Kim and Munsok Park, Co-CEO of Studio ARTECH and ARTART, and Jihyeon Lee, Co-CEO of the cultural and arts content platform ‘Artculture4u.’ Discussions continued on the intersections of AI, human experiences, and digital art. Yeonjin Seo’s omakase performance of digital art, ‘Restaurant: dustless_illusion,’ was praised for expanding the boundaries of art.

On the final day, September 7th, the conference featured an artist table by Minje Jeon, who creates media art using data and AI. Additionally, art tour programs offered networking opportunities for participants to experience digital art together. The tours included visits to the Paradise Art Lab Festival, Tobias Rehberger’s solo exhibition at Platform-L, the Nam June Paik Art Center, and the ‘Age of Alter Ego’ exhibition at The STAN Museum, providing opportunities for audiences and collectors to meet artists and curators.

FuturaCanvas also became one of the hottest parties of Seoul Art Week. The first day’s party, co-hosted with Gallery STAN and SuperSoulSeoul, was a large-scale event at a Myeongdong club. The second day’s party featured audio-visual and live coding performances by technology-using artists, with particular attention to Kohui’s new work ‘Microbial Objects Sound,’ which explored how we perceive ‘life’ through sound ecology.

Michelle Kim, CEO of DoTPlanner, commented, “We also used AI to create the background music and event announcements for this conference. I hope this provides an opportunity for participants to glimpse the future through the lens of technology and art.”

HyeIn Jeon, Founder of ARTRY and program director, added, “I hope this event helped spotlight those contributing to the art and tech ecosystem and fostered connections across art, technology, and industry.”
